From the page to the screen, Netflix recently offered audiences a stellar adaptation of Michael Connelly’s 2008 novel The Brass verdict.
Warning: This article contains spoilers
Created by David E. Kelley and developed by Ted Humphrey, the American legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in the central role of Mickey Haller, a defence attorney in Los Angeles.
Since hitting Netflix on Friday, May 13th, fans have made quick work of its 10 episodes.
As the show progresses, the question on everybody’s minds is inescapable. Who killed Jerry in The Lincoln Lawyer? Well, let’s take a look…
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS
Who killed Jerry in The Lincoln Lawyer?
It was juror no. 7 – real name McSweeney – who had Jerry Vincent killed, but it was actually Judge Mary Holder who wanted him dead and ordered the hit.
Diving into more spoilers, it was Judge Holder who bugged Mickey’s car, despite him initially suspecting Judge Stanton. She was the mastermind behind everything and had been rigging juries along with her husband, Mitch Lester, for huge amounts of money.
Judge Holder was ultimately responsible for getting juror no. 7 on the jury, taking a bribe.
To ensure he would get on, she fabricated a backstory that would undoubtedly make sure he was selected as a juror. Of course, it worked; she knows the ins and outs of the legal system.
She basically had Jerry murdered because he would’ve stopped her from getting away with her crimes. Only a close eye on Mickey from Detective Griggs meant that she couldn’t kill him too.
‘It was a pleasure’
During a recent conversation with Coming Soon, Mickey actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo was asked how it was to explore his character’s arc across an episodic format:
“It was a pleasure, you know? First, you’re dealing with the whole arc, you can see it. We find him at the beginning in the lowest part of his life, and then he’s climbing… it was such a pleasure playing Mickey Haller, a character that is loved by so many. To be part of Michael Connelly’s world.”
He continued: “It was such a pleasure. I mean, Mickey Haller is one of those characters that … he’s larger than life. So lots of collars and very complex, and vulnerable. So it was beautiful. It was really cool to play him.”
Is it renewed for season 2?
As you’ll now know, Judge Holder’s crimes were unearthed and she faced the music accordingly.
So, that’s wrapped up. Nevertheless, there’s clearly still potential to continue the journey with Mickey. As of yet though, neither Netflix nor the creators have announced a second season of The Lincoln Lawyer.
It’s still early days though!
The Lincoln Lawyer is now streaming on Netflix.
