Joining Yumi on the cover are Kim Kardashian, Maye Musk and Ciara.

Yumi says being on the SI cover was a “no brainer” as she wants to be “the frontline of change in the industry”.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Yumi said: “Collaboration with SI Swim is a no-brainer for me — they aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of what used to be normal for the media.”

“I think we both (Yumi and SI) have the same intention. We want people to feel good in their skin. We want to be on the frontline of change in the industry,” she added further.

She even titled her cover story as My Year of Visibility, trying to shed light on changing perceptions of the fashion industry.

Reflecting on her own transformation in the past year, Yumi said: “I’ve become a lot more comfortable in my skin. I’ve really started to trust myself more and second guess myself less.

“It feels really good, and it actually makes me look forward to getting older.”

Twitter praises the rising star

Fans on social media have heaped praise on Yumi. Her take on the fashion industry while spreading body positivity is being applauded by many people on the internet.

One tweeted: “Growing up, you never would have seen a curvy model on Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition. This year they have 4 cover models, 1 of whom is Yumi Nu. If 14yo me had seen Yumi Nu on the cover of SI, 41yo me might feel differently about herself”

“Also, Yumi Nu is an absolute goddess I mean…,” wrote another.

Another fan wrote: “Seeing Yumi Nu on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit matters to every single woman who has spent her life uncomfortable in swimwear because we’ve been conditioned to believe curves make you less attractive and should be hidden instead of celebrated.”
