Who is Rand Casimiro in Better Call Saul?

Rand Casimiro is a retired judge from Santa Fe who has been selected to mediate over the Sandpiper Crossing class-action case.

Casimiro is a new character in Better Call Saul and Kim only learned of his involvement in the Sandpiper case in episode 5 during her meeting with her former Schweikart & Cokely colleague Viola Goto and she later found a picture of him in the Bar Journal.

In episode 6, we see Jimmy preparing a lookalike Casimiro to appear in some incriminating staged photos, agonising over just what style his trademark moustache should be.

However, in the final moments of the episode, Jimmy bumps into the real Casimiro in a wine store and notices that their plan faces a not-so-tiny hiccup.

Casimiro has recently broken his arm and it’s strapped up in a cast, therefore making their staged photos completely useless.

Jimmy suggests to Kim that they put their plan on ice and try again another time but Kim – who is supposed to be on her way to Santa Fe for an important career opportunity – is having none of it and turns her car around and heads back to Albuquerque.

What is Kim and Jimmy’s plan?

As Kim and Jimmy discussed in the season 5 finale, they are hoping to speed the ongoing Sandpiper Crossing case along as it would see Jimmy earn a massive finder’s fee in the region of $2 million.

During season 6, the pair have been slowly laying the groundwork for their scheme, hoping to have Howard Hamlin – who is overseeing the case – discredited so a settlement can be reached quickly.

This has seen Jimmy plant fake drugs in Howard’s locker at the golf club and ‘borrow’ Howard’s car to stage a fake bust-up with a prostitute in front of respected lawyer Cliff Main.

The next stage in their plan seemed to be to discredit the judge overseeing the case, Rand Casimiro.

However, Casimiro’s broken arm threatens to undo all of their work up to this point and episode 7 will be a fascinating watch to see how Kim and Jimmy get their conniving scheme back on track.
