Tottenham Hotspur could sell Manchester United target Steven Bergwijn this summer – or even use him in swap deals to strengthen Antonio Conte’s squad.
Tottenham’s Champions League fate rests on tonight’s game against Arsenal, and that will shape the summer transfer business.
Spurs will ultimately need to offload some players regardless in order to raise funds for incoming signings.
The likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele look primed to go whilst Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon could go too.
Another name for the chopping block could be Bergwijn, who just hasn’t received enough playing time.
Tottenham Hotspur could sell Steven Bergwijn
Bergwijn joined Tottenham for £25million in January 2020. Bergwijn had impressed with PSV Eindhoven and earned his big move to England.
Bergwijn made a great start at Tottenham with a goal against Manchester City but he just hasn’t been able to keep that going.
The Dutch international has been behind Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura in the Tottenham pecking order.
Even after scoring twice late on to beat Leicester City in January, Bergwijn hasn’t been given much of a chance.
It now makes sense for Bergwijn to move on, especially with his World Cup hopes potentially in danger if he doesn’t play.
The Telegraph claim that Tottenham may sell Bergwijn or even include him in a swap deal to move him on.
Who could Tottenham swap Bergwijn for this summer?
Ajax have been the main suitor for Bergwijn over the last year.
You could maybe imagine Tottenham fancying defender Jurrien Timber or winger Antony, with Bergwijn a potentially appealing makeweight.
The wildcard here could actually be Manchester United.
Ajax’s interest was driven by boss Erik ten Hag, but he is now heading to United this summer.
The Daily Mail have even claimed that Ten Hag wants to bring Bergwijn to Tottenham this summer having held a long-standing interest.
United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been linked with Tottenham and could be the heir to Hugo Lloris.
It’s unclear who else would want Bergwijn but Tottenham may see him as a valuable piece for a swap deal.
