Striker sold by West Ham in 2021 could now replace Haaland at Borussia Dortmund

According to Sport1, Sebastien Haller could now replace Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund, after West Ham sold him to Ajax in January 2021.

What’s the story?

Well, this wouldn’t be a good look for West Ham.

The Hammers decided to cut their losses with the Ivory Coast international back in January 2021, agreeing to sell him to Ajax for a sum of £20.25m.

That was despite the fact they paid Eintracht Frankfurt £45m for his services back in July 2019.

In 54 appearances, Haller scored just 14 goals for West Ham, but at Ajax, the 27-year-old has exploded into life.

So far this season, Haller has scored 34 goals in 42 appearances, while also providing nine assists.

In total, the Ivorian has netted 47 goals in 65 games for Ajax, which is a phenomenal record – to say the least.

Haller even admitted he was very pleased to leave West Ham, where he endured his worst goalscoring run for many years.

Now, he has been deemed good enough to replace one of the best forwards around in Haaland, who has scored 28 goals in 29 outings this season.

Interestingly, Haller is also believed to be a target for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, with the Dutchman set to replace Ralf Rangnick.

West Ham should ignore what happens at Borussia Dortmund

As well as Haller has performed since leaving the London Stadium, there is no point in looking back at the past for West Ham.

The Irons still received a decent fee from Ajax, and have since reached the Europa League semi-finals while also challenging for a place among the Premier League’s elite.

David Moyes has exceeded even the wildest expectations, and no matter how well Haller does elsewhere, it just wasn’t working out for him in east London.

Having said that, West Ham do still need to sign a new striker, as Michail Antonio has been burdened with the task of goalscoring since Haller departed.
