Sony Max is an Indian pay television entertainment channel that is a sister channel of Sony Entertainment Television, operated by Culver Max Entertainment. The channel began broadcasting on 20 July 1999 and is available internationally. It launched an HD simulcast version on 25 December 2015 It primarily broadcasts Bollywood and Hollywood (Hindi dubbed) movies
Its main audience attraction, apart from Hindi language movies, was the Twenty20 cricket tournament Indian Premier League (IPL), which the channel broadcast from the tournament’s inception in 2008 until 2017, after which it sold the broadcast rights to Star Sports. It also airs complimentary cricket talk show programs like Extraaa Inning T20. It also broadcasts occasional Hollywood movies and WWE matches in Hindi. Sony Max is one of the most watched television channels in India, the second most popular in the country as of July 2018, ahead of rivals such as Zee Cinema, the UK’s top Bollywood channel that month.
An HD simulcast feed of the European version was launched on Sky in the UK on 1 August 2017.
