Pep Guardiola says West Ham player is ‘so strong’, he is ‘not easy’ to face

Pep Guardiola has praised West Ham ace Michail Antonio on Sky Sports – as per Football Daily – claiming he must go to the gym everyday. The Hammers produced a wonderful display to draw 2-2 with Manchester City on Sunday.

Another twist came in Mark Noble’s last-ever home game at West Ham, as the Hammers drew 2-2 with the champions. Jarrod Bowen scored a first-half brace, a star that is currently a target for City’s challengers Liverpool.

However, City came roaring back in the second half. Jack Grealish’s volley was deflected into the back of the net, before Vladimir Coufal scored an own goal. City are four clear, but Liverpool have a game in hand.

Antonio was a real handful all game and while he missed a golden chance to chip Ederson, Guardiola was full of praise of the £7million (Mail) striker. He explained why he is so difficult to deal with, praising two City stars.

“He goes to the gym everyday, this guy is so strong,” Guardiola said. “He’s really, really strong. I want to congratulate Fernandinho and Laporte. They were not fit, not 100%, but they dealt with Antonio and that is not easy.”

West Ham ace Antonio praised by Guardiola: Hammers need another

This season, seventh place will ensure Europa Conference League qualification – and the Hammers have secured as much with the draw against City. They still have a chance of leapfrogging Manchester United.

Manchester United take on Crystal Palace in the final game of the season at Selhurst Park, while West Ham travel to Brighton. The Hammers need to reduce the two-point gap, but have much the better goal difference.

A real chance, then, that West Ham get sixth and Europa League football again – after reaching this season’s semi-finals. Whatever happens, they will definitely need competition for Antonio in the final third.
