Roberto Firmino hasn’t scored a tonne of goals for Liverpool this season, but the Brazilian remains a massive player for Jurgen Klopp nevertheless.

That was evident on Tuesday night.

The South American helped Liverpool to a 2-1 victory away to Southampton as Klopp’s side moved one point behind Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League standings.

And although the former Hoffenheim hitman – who cost £29 million in 2015 [BBC Sport] – wasn’t among the goals, he linked up brilliantly with his Reds teammates throughout the encounter.

As ever, Firmino also demonstrated what a deft touch he has with the football, something that wowed Lee Dixon during his commentary for NBC Sport last night.

He said: “I know we talk about it but I think Firmino’s got the best first touch in the Premier League. Everytime the ball comes to him he’s already thinking where it’s going to go.”

How many goals has Firmino scored this season?

According to Transfermarkt, the 31-year-old, whom Klopp said people will write books about one day, has managed 11 goals for Liverpool this season.

Even though the Brazil international has been injured for chunks of the campaign, that is still a poor total by his own standards and it would appear as if Firmino – who only scored nine in all competitions last term – is slowly but surely waning in regards to influence.

However, as mentioned, he remains an important player for Liverpool in terms of all-round play, someone who Philippe Coutinho gushed over last weekend and despite not finding the net with the same frequency as previous years, he can still affect positive results, just like last night.
