Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website after the FA Cup final against Chelsea that he wishes that he had signed Thiago four years earlier.
Klopp’s Liverpool beat Premier League rivals Chelsea on penalties in the final of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.
The FA Cup final finished goalless after extra time, and Liverpool won the penalty shootout 6-5.
Liverpool midfielder Thiago was superb in the final, and after the match, Klopp said that he told the Spain international midfielder that he would have signed him four years earlier had he know how good he is.
Thiago moved to Liverpool from Bayern in the summer of 2020 for £20 million (BBC Sport).
Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool’s Thiago
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “And after the game I said to Thiago, if I would have known what a player you are, I would have signed you four years earlier.
“He said, ‘You taught me running!’ I take that, it’s fine. He could obviously already play football pretty well but he learned running in Liverpool, that’s fine.”
In our opinion, Liverpool midfielder Thiago has been superb for the Reds, especially this season.
The Spain international midfielder had injury problems last season, and we did not see the best of him.
However, Thiago has turned on the style this campaign and is now a regular in the first team at Liverpool.
The 31-year-old has made 16 starts and eight substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
Thiago has scored one goal and given three assists in those games.
