Jonathan Woodgate says Liverpool have made a really astute signing in £11m star

Jonathan Woodgate was full of praise for Liverpool ace Konstantinos Tsimikas on Tuesday night, during commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. The Reds secured a narrow 2-1 win over Aston Villa to keep the title race alive.

Tsimikas, 25, endured a tricky first season at Liverpool – only playing seven times, but has clocked up 24 this time around. He has even laid on six assists this season, and started on the left of Liverpool’s defence on Tuesday.

Liverpool edged Villa aside to win 2-1 at Villa Park despite going down a goal early on, Douglas Luiz tapping home. Liverpool equalised soon after, Joel Matip netting – and then Sadio Mane heading home in the second half.

In the second half, Ollie Watkins had a chance to shoot but Greece star Tsimikas managed to make a last-second intervention – and it impressed Woodgate. The ex-England star raved about the signing of Tsimikas.

“Tsimikas has been an excellent deputy for Robertson. He is another astute signing by the Liverpool recruitment team. That was a huge challenge,” Woodgate said during commentary, about the £11million addition (ESPN).

Woodgate praises Liverpool ace Tsimikas: How long will he stay?

Tsimikas seems happy at Anfield but how long will he be willing to play cover for Andy Robertson? It might simply depend on another team coming in for Tsimikas – one that could tempt him with regular football.

Juventus are said to be interested in Tsimikas. If he was to join the Old Lady, and start, then that would surely tempt him. He has a contract at Anfield until the summer of 2025 – but Liverpool will be keen to keep Tsimikas.
