Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Curtis Jones was Liverpool’s ‘second-best player’ during his side’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Tuesday night.
Liverpool have now taken the Premier League title race to the final day of the season, as a much-changed team did the business at St Mary’s.
What’s perhaps even better is that Jurgen Klopp watched his team fall behind, but make a comeback thanks to goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip.
Jones was one of the players who came into the fold, from their FA Cup penalty shootout win against Chelsea, with the 21-year-old playing alongside Harvey Elliott and James Milner in the middle of the park.
Nonetheless, after the game, this is what Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League (17/05/22 at 10:15 pm) about Jones yesterday.
“I looked at Curtis Jones tonight, I thought he was fantastic,” said Redknapp. “He was probably the second-best player on the pitch for me.
“The way that he ran around and chased. He’s such a talented young player. But he buys into everything Jurgen Klopp wants him to do.”
LIVERPOOL HOPING FOR FAVOUR FROM ASTON VILLA ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE SEASON
It’s probably going to be hyped up to crazy levels, but if Villa get something from Manchester City at the weekend, and Liverpool beat Wolves, then the title will be heading towards Merseyside.
It’s not only the crazy story that could unfold on the final day of the Premier League campaign because the Champions League and relegation battle is also on the line.
Tottenham and Arsenal are battling it out for fourth spot, whilst Leeds, Burnley and Everton are hoping to avoid the drop.
Although, both Burnley and Everton can help themselves by getting something from their games in hand on Thursday.
