Gary Lineker hails £60m Arsenal & Tottenham target after he wins award

Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Arsenal & Tottenham target James Maddison, after he was named Player of the Season at Leicester.

What’s the story?

Well, the 2016 Premier League champions have many quality players, such as Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy, so it speaks volumes that Maddison won the award.

The 25-year-old, who is believed to be a target for Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte, has enjoyed a superb season for the Foxes, hitting double figures for both goals and assists.

In 50 appearances so far this term, Maddison – who is valued at £60m – has scored 16 goals, while also providing 11 assists.

The Coventry-born playmaker also helped Leicester reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League, where they suffered defeat to Roma.

After hearing the news, Lineker posted the following message on Twitter.

Clearly, the BBC Match of the Day host thinks highly of Maddison, and we should take his word for it, seeing as he supports Leicester.

To hit double figures for both goals and assists takes some doing, so Maddison’s efforts this season should not be glossed over.

Arsenal could beat Tottenham to James Maddison

In our view, Arsenal have a good chance of beating Tottenham to Maddison’s signature, even if Spurs secure Champions League football.

Back in 2021, the Gunners tried to sign the England international, and it was even said that he was interested in a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Ultimately, a move failed to materialise.

Now, however, Arsenal are in a much better position than they were 12 months ago, so it’s possible that Maddison remains interested.

Of course, the Leicester No.10 has also improved since 2021, so he may now be setting his sights on the Champions League having already tasted Europa League football with the Foxes earlier this season.

Nevertheless, anything could happen this summer, so keep your eye on the situation.
