Club complete £25.5m deal for Tottenham, Newcastle target Botman

CalcioMercato report AC Milan have completed the signing of Lille defender Sven Botman – amid interest from both Newcastle and Tottenham. Botman was one of Newcastle’s January priorities, and that interest has remained.

Botman, 22, is considered one of the best central defenders in European football under the age of 23. It comes after joining Lille in 2020 from Ajax, and helping the French side win the Ligue 1 title in his first season.

This season, Lille have been far from their best and sit in mid-table. There is still a chance of European football but it is clear that Botman is set to go. Reports in March claimed Botman had rejected Newcastle and Spurs offers.

Now, reports from CM state that Milan have now completed a deal to sign Botman – with a fee of £25.5million agreed with the Serie A giants. A huge coup for Milan, who will want to strengthen their title push next campaign.

Newcastle and Tottenham target Botman to join Milan

Both Newcastle and Tottenham will not only be kicking themselves at failing to sign a player of Botman’s quality and potential. But also, because at £25.5million, Botman is an absolute bargain – one both would want.

Spurs and Newcastle need centre-backs this summer. Antonio Conte plays three at the back and Eddie Howe needs top-quality competition for Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar. Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark could go.

Botman would have been a sensational signing, but it appears the Newcastle and Tottenham target is to join Milan.
