Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Sasa Kalajdzic – but Benfica want him replace another Spurs target in star striker Darwin Nunez.
It’s no great secret that Tottenham need to sign another striker this summer.
Harry Kane is nearing his 30’s now and Tottenham have never really managed to solve the conundrum of giving him a competition and cover.
Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius have had a go with limited success, and we have often seen wingers Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura up front.
Antonio Conte will surely want another striker this summer and there have been links to both Kalajdzic and Nunez.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Sasa Kalajdzic and Darwin Nunez
Stuttgart hitman Kalajdzic has come back from injury with a bang, scoring six goals in 15 games.
The giant Austrian striker is a huge threat – quite literally – inside the box and scored to help keep Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Kalajdzic is largely expected to leave this summer though and Tottenham are allegedly keen.
Kicker reported in March that Tottenham are rivalling West Ham in the race to sign Kalajdzic.
The Athletic now report that Benfica’s incoming boss Roger Schmidt wants to bring Kalajdzic to Portugal.
The idea would be for Benfica to sign Kalajdzic as a replacement for star striker Nunez, who is likely to leave this summer.
The ironic part here is that one of the clubs linked with signing Nunez is… you guessed it, Tottenham!
The Express claimed back in April that Tottenham had been scouting Nunez ahead of a possible move.
Nunez has been sensational this season, smashing 26 goals in 28 league games for Benfica.
The Uruguayan is primed for a move away this summer but Tottenham surely won’t be signing him.
Any fee for Nunez would likely be over £60million and the old problem will be there again – would Nunez want to move if he’s behind Harry Kane?
Probably not, but Tottenham may end up missing out on Nunez and then see Kalajdzic head to Benfica as his replacement.
