Thiago had a mixed performance for Liverpool during their FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea.
Wembley played host as Liverpool completed a double of sorts on Saturday by beating the Blues during a penalty shootout, the same manner of their victory for the Carabao Cup success over Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Thiago has been immense for the Reds this season and shone in the semi-final win over Manchester City last month.
And although he had moments of brilliance on Saturday, he also had some moments of uncharacteristic sloppiness.
In one moment, Karen Carney spotted an incident where the Spain international surrendered possession in a manner which he rarely does.
She told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I’ve just seen something super rare – Thiago not checking his shoulder and being dispossessed. I’ve never seen that! He didn’t check his shoulder and Mount pounced on him.”
Fortunately for Thiago – a £20 million signing in 2020 – it didn’t cost the Reds a lot.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona maestro was among the Liverpool players who scored their penalty during the shootout.
In fact, Thiago’s was typical cool and calm, the exact spot-kick that you would expect him to take.
This was a brilliant occasion for the Reds, but they’ll be turning their attention toward Paris in two weeks.
Jurgen Klopp’s troops have a date with Real Madrid in the Champions League final and no doubt Thiago – vying for a third title – will be back to his very best for that one.
