Barcelona want Tottenham star, he could be ‘surplus to requirements’

The Mirror claim Barcelona want to sign Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon in a shock move that would see the ex-Real Madrid man join his old club’s rivals. The report claims he could be ‘surplus to requirements’.

Reguilon, 25, has been overtake by Ryan Sessegnon of late and has not fully convinced Antonio Conte – who is believed to want to make additions on both flanks. Reguilon has a £43m Real Madrid buyback clause in his deal.

Indeed, Conte was caught screaming at Reguilon during a recent win over Aston Villa – with the Spaniard clearly not winning the Italian over as of yet. Now, he could be on his way back to Spain, but to Madrid’s El Clasico rivals.

The Mirror report claims as much, in what would be a shocking move. John Cross also suggests that Reguilon, having fallen down the pecking order, could be ‘surplus to requirements’ at Tottenham ahead of the window.

Barcelona want Tottenham man Reguilon: Surely he would reject?

It is an intriguing proposition. Reguilon is a solid left-back and is clearly well-regarded in Spanish football. He could be considering his future ahead of the summer. But would he really entertain a move to the Nou Camp?

A player that has come through the Madrid set-up and played 22 times at senior level. A player that still has a buyback clause with Madrid. Given his current situation at Spurs, might he consider a return? Time will tell.

For a player with no prior Madrid connection, it would certainly be a tempting move if Barca can afford him and work out a deal with Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici. Spurs are keen on Barca striker Memphis Depay.
