Aston Villa want Rangers star Joe Aribo – a player Steven Gerrard praised during his time in charge of the Ibrox club.
Villa’s season has petered out a little with Gerrard no doubt keen to just get to the summer and re-tool his squad.
Gerrard needs reinforcements if he is going to take Villa where he wants to go in the Premier League – and even into Europe.
Philippe Coutinho has already signed permanently and Gerrard will be desperate for more signings to come.
Gerrard has been linked with a host of Rangers players since leaving Ibrox and midfielder Aribo is the latest.
Aston Villa want Rangers star Joe Aribo
The Sun report that Villa have joined the race to sign Aribo this summer.
Crystal Palace and Brentford are also thought to be keen on bringing Aribo back to London.
Aribo was born in Camberwell in South London and turned out for Charlton Athletic in the capital.
A return to England may appeal to Aribo at some point soon having spent three years with Rangers.
Yet if Rangers win the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt tonight, they may be in a position to keep Aribo.
The big selling point may be Gerrard, who managed to lure Aribo to Rangers in 2019.
Gerrard hailed Aribo as a ‘fantastic’ player, claiming that you can’t get him off the training pitch as he looks to improve constantly.
That’s the kind of attitude that Gerrard loves and it’s no surprise that Aribo played a key role in his Rangers side.
Aribo, 25, will surely start for Rangers in the Europa League final and many clubs will be keeping tabs on him.
With eight goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season, Aribo has yet again shown his attacking prowess.
Add in his physicality and ability to carry the ball and it’s no surprise to see Gerrard wants Aribo at Villa; whether Rangers would actually sell is another matter though.
