Alan Shearer has praised Bruno Guimaraes after Newcastle United beat Arsenal 2-0 on Monday night and stated the fans ‘adore him’.
Signed in January, the 24-year-old has taken the Premier League by storm and Shearer added by saying the fans also ‘love his ability’, as he told PL Productions (16/05/22 at 10:10 pm).
The Toon Army faithful, during the first half of the campaign, had Mike Ashley in charge, Steve Bruce in the dugout and they were staring at relegation.
Heading into the final game of the Premier League season, not many thought they would be in a situation where a top ten finish is on the cards.
It has been some turnaround, from the new owners, Eddie Howe and players like Guimaraes coming in, as Shearer was left wowed by what he produced last night.
“That guy Bruno Guimaraes, what a signing he has been,” said Shearer. “The fans adore him.
“They love his passion. They love his ability. They also love the fact that he understands the area and gets the area and what it’s about.
“He has made a magnificent start to his Newcastle career. He has got the crowd right behind him, and rightfully so.
“He’s only going to get better and his ability will be able to attract better players.
“When they see the likes of him going there, and Trippier, then they will think ‘there is something happening at Newcastle’ and it’s because of players like him trusting what the manager and owners have told them.”
GUIMARAES ONE OF THE SIGNINGS OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON
Given the mess players like Guimaraes walked into, he has done quite the job in the middle of the park for Newcastle.
What’s even more impressive is that he joined the club with a lot of expectations on his shoulders and fans that needed lifting.
The Brazil international has ticked all those boxes and a few more, as the Geordies now have a new favourite to cheer on.
If Newcastle can land more players of his calibre during the summer transfer window, then they will be in for some ride next season.
