About Brown Rudnick, the legal firm representing Johnny Depp in Virginia

Johnny Depp’s defamation case has resumed in Virginia and his lawyer Camille Vasquez is currently cross-examining Amber Heard.

The case took a ten-day break due to scheduling issues but is now in its fifth week at the Fairfax County Court.

Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over an op-ed she published in 2018 in which she claimed she had experienced abuse, although she did not name Depp. Heard, 36, has countersued for $100 million and the continuing case is being watched live by millions worldwide.

He graduated with a Bachelors degree from Princeton University before attending University of Virginia School of Law and is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers.

Another name you may have heard is Andrew Crawford, who is also based in Washington DC and is an associate in the government contracts practice group.

A Wake Forest University and Boston College Law School graduate, he works in a variety of legal areas and was recognised by Super Lawyers as a “rising star”.

Others in the team are Wayne Dennison, Stephanie Calnan, Rebecca MacDowell Lecaroz, Yarelyn Mena, Jessica Meyers and Samuel Moniz, whose profiles can be read on the Brown Rudnick website.

Meet Amber Heard’s lawyer

Amber Heard’s main lawyer is Benjamin Rottenborn, a Waynesboro, Virginia, native who works at Virginia-based law firm Woods Rogers.

His bio on the firm’s site states he “represents clients in complex civil litigation involving issues in fiduciary duty, general commercial law, and other matters”.

His profile reveals some of his many career highlights, including defending a Fortune 50 company and representing venture capital directors in a breach of fiduciary duty lawsuit.

He is also ranked as a rising star by Super Lawyers Virginia and gained degrees from University of Virginia and Stanford Law School.

Rumours flooded the internet this month that Ben had quit as the actress’ lawyer but there has been no official announcement confirming this and it doesn’t appear to be true.

Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for defamation because of an op-ed she published in the Washington Post in 2018. Heard is countersuing Depp. The trial is set to continue.
