£164,000-a-week Liverpool target tempted by Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who is reportedly tempted by a move to Old Trafford.

Sport reported in February 2022 that Liverpool are keen on signing De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are reportedly ready to pay the transfer fee that Barcelona would want for Netherland international midfielder.

Mundo Deportivo have now reported that Manchester United are keen on signing de Jong in the summer transfer window.

And, according to the report in the Spanish news outlet, the 25-year-old Netherlands international midfielder is ‘tempted’ by a move to Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will become the new manager of United, and De Jong worked with him at Ajax.

However, Mundo Deportivo have added that the midfielder wants to stay at Barcelona and succeed at Camp Nou, but if the La Liga club want to push him out, then the £164,000-a-week (SalarySport) player will change his mind.

Manchester United over Liverpool for Frenkie de Jong?

In our opinion, Manchester United have the edge over Liverpool in the race for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Yes, United will not play in the Champions League next season and will not even challenge for the Premier League title.

However, Ten Hag knows De Jong, and he will surely make a strong pitch to the Barcelona midfielder to move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old has not had the best of times at Barcelona since his transfer from Ajax in 2019, and maybe he would welcome the chance to work with Ten Hag again and get back to his best.
